March 2025 Year In Review

Before I tell you about what went down in the month of March, I have to talk about week 14 in the NFL. I was going to mention an update on the Lane Kiffin situation because it is a hot topic and people are passionate, whatever side you're on you have to agree the optics are terrible...so much so that Congress has weighed in using this situation as a need to reform college sports.

The Denver Broncos are on a 10 game winning streak, Miami has won four games in a row, Buffalo has potential and a very gifted QB if they could just stop self sabotaging themselves against bad teams, their record of wins and losses makes no sense i.e, when the Bills lost to the Falcons...the same Falcons that got shut out 30-0 by the Carolina Panthers. Like I said, they have the potential if they stop shooting themselves in the foot.

Texans just punched the Chiefs in the mouth in their home in front of their Hollywood friends, Travis Kelce is learning that time is undefeated because he looked old in certain spots during the game...bro took the fine instead of talking to the media...the Chiefs are not eliminated yet but they're going to need a lot of help from the refs errrrr I mean a lot of things to go their way if they want to extend their playoff streak. The Jaguars are 9-4 and they're on top of their division? What!? I'm so used to them being terrible...maybe Liam Coen can coach? I'll never forget when he wanted to fight the 49ers defensive coach on the field... One more thing, the Colts smh poor Indy! These guys cannot catch a break, they just lost their QB Daniel Jones to an torn acl, what's worse it's his other leg so he's obviously done for the season.

March

This blog is still new but I have some old school loyal followers from my previous blogs that I appreciate. But for my new readers you guys don't know that March brings my favorite sporting event of the year. The NCAA college basketball tournament. The pageantry, the selection process, the first four...just kidding I don't need to watch that so I don't but the field of 64 tournament is what I love. It's so unique, I love the one and done format and as long as they stop trying to add teams and screw it up, it will always be my favorite event.

March Madness brackets started floating around. Office pool guy inevitably handed you one of these brackets to get down on an office NCAA lottery.

Cinderella stories from the tournament...small colleges going up against powerhouse institutions and sending them packing will never not be entertaining. This year Colorado State (12), McNeese St (12), Drake (11), and Arkansas (10) were some of the early feel good stories.

The Goliaths bullied their way to the Final Four...four No. 1 seeded teams reached the Final Four for the second time in history. Auburn, Duke, Florida, and Houston.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs kicked off the MLB season in Tokyo, Japan. The Dodgers would go onto win the World Series later in the year.

A Bulgarian football team, Arda Kardzhali, held a moment of silence for a former player Petko Ganchev which is a traditional way to honor a fallen player. The only problem is dude wasn't dead! His wife found out on tv and the team had to issue an apology...Oops!

NFL free agency was very active...What comes to mind is DK Metcalf getting traded from Seattle to Pittsburgh and getting a $150 million extension. I'll always be an advocate for players getting as much money as they can especially in the NFL where the contracts are so lopsided but to say dude is not living up to his contract is an understatement.

Speaking of money, Deion Sanders signed a 5-year $54 million extension with Colorado then proceeded to have one of the worst seasons in school history.

In the women's college basketball tournament USC's JuJu Watkins tears her ACL which ended her season. Such a shame because USC would go on to face UConn but the game wasn't what it could've been.

Usually if I'm at the movie theater it's to see a kid's movie like the Bad Guys 2 and while dropping a couple hundred bucks on snacks and games I look at the posters on the upcoming movies and most of the time nothing interests me...this was different, my boy Jason Statham was back in A Working Man...not as good as the Beekeeper but it was nice to see live action instead of a cartoon.

Finally, the introduction of Torpedo bats in MLB. Remember the Yankees hit a record 9 homeruns in a game? Or when they had 15 total in their first three games? It's because the league allowed the use of a new bat called the Torpedo...Hey MLB, at this point why not let the guys use aluminum bats? Then even average players can start hitting homeruns that land on people's front porch like Dave Kingman...
